Was trying to find out when and if viburnum (chinese snowball) should be pruned and if it is recommened to prune all the way to the bottom. Thank you. |
Because they develop flower buds in the summer, snowball bushes (Viburnum opulus) should be pruned immediately after flowering. This allows a full growing season for them to produce new stems and develop flower buds for the following year's display. You can prune out any errant branches or you can shear the entire plant to control its size, but I wouldn't recommend pruning it all the way down to ground level. Just prune to shape by cutting the tips of the stems and branches out after it has finished flowering next spring and the following year it should bloom beautifully for you. Enjoy! |
