GIANT TIMBER BAMBOO Bambusa oldhamii

1.What would be the minumum number of hours of sunlight per day?

2.Would the entire stalk have to get sun or just the top half for it to survive?

3.I want to plant this type of bamboo in a court yard. What would be the mininmum depth for the root system?

4.What would be the necessary diameter if planted in a pot?

5.What would be the minimum dimensions for such a planting area?

6.What is the largest size plant you sell?

Your questions are difficult as there are not black and white answers. The bamboo needs full light to thrive but if you can get it about 4 hours it would probably be able to get the top up into the sun which would help a lot. The roots need at least a foot of soil and 18 inches would be better. The clump grows in time making pot culture difficult. Plus the wind would easily cause a pot grown plant to fall over. In a pot it also would not get nearly a large making my first comments much less pertinent. I would not do a pot. In the ground if you can give it a 5-10 foot diameter area that would be good. The small end of that range means in time the clump would more than fill the allotted area. You will need to contact your local retailers who carry Monrovia plants to see what sizes they carry or can get.
