Growing citrus fruits from seed (technically called a pip) is relatively easy. Remove the pips from the fruit and let them dry on a windowsill for a few days. Then sow them 1/4" deep in a small pot of a sterile potting soil. Water thoroughly and thenplace the pot inside a plastic bag. Once the first leaves have expanded (in 2-3 weeks), remove the plastic and gently transfer the sprouts to individual pots. Don't let the pots dry out at any time, and protect the plants from frost. Otherwise, they can tolerate quite a range of temperatures. I'm glad you asked the question. This would be a fun project to do with my kids! |
