Nandina will grow happily in a container and you'll need to move it up to the next larger size every couple of years. If it's in a one-gallon pot now, plant it in a 2 or 3-gallon pot. When it outgrows that one, plant it in a 5-gallon pot. Eventually it can be placed in a very large container, such as a 20-gallon or half-whiskey barrel. Best wishes with your heavenly bamboo.
