I have 6 arborvitae that have turned brown. How can i tell ifiis insects or disease?

Many cultivars of arborvitae naturally turn brown or bronze during the colder winter months, then turn green again once the growing season starts. So what you are seeing may just be normal. I would suggest you take an overall photo and a foliage sample to your local county extension and/or your professionally trained nursery personnel to verify this is all it is. If not, they should be able to help you diagnose the problem.
