We have a very mature pine tree in our back yard. All of its branches are high off the ground, but it casts a lot of shade nonetheless. We would like to plant a perennial batch underneath one side of it. We prefer daylillies or iris. Will either of these grow under a pine tree? Thanks

Molly,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Neither likes shade but the iris may have the best chance. Louisiana iris would be the best of the iris species for such an area.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
