The Q&A Archives: magnolia

Question: I planted a D.D. Blanchard Magnolia in full sun last spring, but it hasn't grown at all, I'm worried. I live in south Texas. I see a few new leafs but how long before I notice it growing?

Answer: The fact that the tree is slow growing is rather normal for one that has not been in the ground very long. But you may need to keep the soil a little more moist. Not soggy just moist. Dry spells can really set them back especially for a young tree that has not had many years to develop an extensive root system. Mulch the area around the tree well to hold moisture and deter weeds.
