I bought a tree form potted Gardenia which bloomed wonderfully from June - Sept. Now, Feb. all the leaves are brown and it just looks sad. What should I do? This gardenia is kept on my deck outside in partial sun. Thank you

Lisa,

It is difficult to know just what happened as brown leaves can be caused by many things. Check the drainage holes on the pot to see if they are clogged or if there even are any holes. Soggy conditions and dry soil can both cause such problems. It may be that winter cold burned your plant in which case it should recover with the arrival of warmer weather. However my best guess is that something happened in the root system and was most likely too much water (poor drainage).
