If your soil is a heavy black clay it is difficult to get the pH to move down. In such a case your best bet is to add sulfur and rototill it into a large area. The add peat moss over a large area also and rototill it in as deeply as you can. Your County Extension Office can assist you with having your soil tested and interpreting the results. Without a soil test it is impossible to know whether the pH can be practically moved down or not and if so how much sulfur is needed.
