The Q&A Archives: African Iris Care

Question: Should African Iris's be cut back in the winter or very early spring?

Answer: It isn't necessary to cut back African Iris but if the clump is over grown and in need of division, you can cut the tops back to about 6" then dig and divide the clump. January or February are good months to do this, or you can wait until fall, after the spring and summer blooming period is over.
