Question: Is there any special needs for starting brussel sprouts indoors?

Keep the soil moist and warm to get the seeds up and growing quickly. The top of the refrigerator is a good spot for a little extra warmth. Then move them to a room temperature spot with lots of light. To prevent the seedlings from getting lanky stretching toward a window I suggest you set up a shop light fixture with one cool white and one warm white florescent bulb in each fixture. Place the light about 4 inches above the soil surface and move it higher as the plants grow keeping in close (within 3-5 inches) to the top of the plants. This will provide adequate lighting for the growing seeds. Leave the lights on for about 14-16 hours a day. You can purchase a simple plug in timer at home supply stores to turn the lights on and off for you.

Fertile with a soluble plant food at the low label rate once the seedlings have their first true leaf (not the 2 seed leaves that come up first). Keep fertilizing weekly at the low constant feed rate until it is time to move them outside.
