Answer: Figs actually need little fertilizing as long as your soil is at least average in fertility. You could apply a top dressing of good quality compost and/or 10-10-10 granular all purpose fertilizer in early spring each year. A rule of thumb might be a half a cup per tree spread beneath the drip line. Then use an organic mulch to help feed the soil on an ongoing basis. Do not feed in the fall.
