| To some extent your choice will be determined by, in addition to the full sun, how much wind hits the planting and also what kind of soil and soil moisture is at the site as well as whether you want a formal clipped hedge or an informal hedge. Mature size is also a consideration, unfortunately medium could cover a wide size range of shrubs from roughly four to eight feet tall and wide. It's a bit difficult to make suggestions long distance, but you might consider a smaller modern version of bridalwreath such as Spirea nipponica 'Norwegian Snow' or the cultivar "Snowmound" for an informal look in the four foot range; possibly an evergreen such as one of the junipers (these make a berry of sorts but it is not a messy problem), or another option might be the small leafed holly, Ilex glabra, which looks a bit like boxwood, again it produces small dark berries (not showy) but they are not messy. Your local professional nursery staff and/or county extension should be able to make more specific suggestions based on a more detailed understanding of your planting site and your design goals.
