A general purpose fertilizer is one that contains an equal ratio of Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium. You'll find these general-purpose fertilizer packages with a 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 ratio of NPK in most garden centers. Use in amounts as recommended on the label.
