| Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mariesii Variegata' is very well suited to a container and you can keep the plant about 4' tall and wide so it won't become over-whelming in a small space. You'll want to eventually move it into a half-whiskey barrel sized container so there will be plenty of room for root growth and so the container will be stable enough to keep the plant from toppling over in a wind storm. Use a good grade of potting soil to fill your container or a mixture of half potting soil and half garden soil.
