Need basic info re maintenance of these trees indoors. |
Both plants are easy to grow. The Ficus, sometimes called Weeping Fig, does best in well lighted areas, but not much direct sunlight. In Summer give the Ficus plenty of water, but not so much that it collects in the saucer. Fertilize with a liquid fertilizer twice a month in Summer (follow label instructions). In Winter, cut back on water and do not ferilize. The Ficus will lose its leaves if sudden changes of light or temperature are made. Don't worry though, it will usually put on new leaves and adapt itself to the new situation. The Dieffenbachia, is also called Dumb Cane. Pot in a rich potting soil. Fertilize once a month with a liquid fertilizer. If your plant is small, water well, but do not keep wet. With plenty of water the plant willgrow rapidly. Dieffenbachia positions its foliage according to the light intensity. Give plenty of light, but no direct sun, such as in the middle of a brightly lit room, or against a wall next to a window. |
