The Q&A Archives: How long can I save my over abundance of risomes ??

Question: I have two 25 # orange bags full. they are of many colors and sizes. Ia there a time limit ? how should I store them to protect them ?

Answer: If you have rhizomes, I'll assume you have irises. If so, get them into the ground as soon as possible - preferably before they begin to sprout. If you can't plant them in the ground, plant them in pots. The sooner you plant them, the healthier they will be. Prepare the soil by digging it to a depth of 6-8". You can set the rhizomes in a trench, roots down and tops up, then cover them with soil. The rhizomes should set just an inch or two beneath the soil surface. Water them in well and stand back. They should produce foliage in about two weeks. Enjoy!
