I sent you a previous e-mail regading hollies for screens. A second consideration is to plant a holly hedge with Ilex meservae Dragon Lady. Nobody in the Portland area knows about this particular holly and do not carry it. I need to know if this holly is reliable and tidy all year round. Is there any reason not to plant it? If I do the hedge, it would be approxoimately 9 feet tall-would that work? Mostly, do you think Dragon Lady is pretty and is it a good choice for a Northern exposure that gets afternoon sun. Thanks again. Marcia |
Ilex x meserveae 'Dragon Lady'(Dragon Lady Meserve Hybrid Holly) is hardy in Zones 4-9. This columnar shaped Holly variety works well as a foundation hedge when pruned or as a screen. It reaches a height of 15 feet and can reach 6 feet wide. It produces large red berries on a dense plant. One of the following local retailers should have Dragon Lady holly: CORNELL FARM 8212 S.W.
