I've heard that putting a match stick in the ground next to the new green pepper plant is good. Is there anything to this? Or is this an Old Wives Tale??

Depends on what the matchstick is supposed to accomplish. I suppose there would be a tiny amount of sulfur in the match head, but that tiny amount wouldn't affect the plant in any way. It's probably just an Old Wive's Tale.

Why not try an experiment? Plant some with matchsticks and some without and see what happens!
