My local Nursery tells me my zone is about a 4 1/2 and is recommending either using blue boy holly or hicks yew for my hedge/screening needs (I have cars that drive by about 10 feet from my window). The yew sounds nice but it says it's slow growing and wonder how slow is slow. The holly pictures do not show arranged as a hedge and it does not appear as dense. Can the holly take a lot of pruning and shaping? Would actually like to use something more flowery like a vibernum burkwoodi but unfortunately most of the plants I really like our deciduous and I need some screening in the winter as well. Any recommendations? Thanks, Joanne |
