I'm stuck in an apartment with a small balcony on the north side of the building. Not much direct sunlight at any point of the day. However, I really would like some hanging baskets - preferbaly with flowers - and, if possible, maybe a couple of vegetables or trees. Suggestions? I'm pretty new to this. |
As you know, flowering plants can have a tough time of it in shady spots. But, it's not totally a lost cause. Euphorbias, hellebores, hostas, impatiens, pansies and some geranium varieties are perennials worth trying. Or, you may opt to go for green calm by planting shrubs, ivy, and ferns. The only veggies you can grow in the shade are the leafy ones such as cabbage and lettuce. Wish I had more suggestions for you! |
