our downtown Atlanta clients have tough conditions - planters with no irrigation, shade and high wind. can you suggest perennials/annuals/small shrubs that would do well and at the same time give interest and/or color? |
Teresa, Wow that is a tough set of conditions. Any plant is going to need some water to get established so some initial supplemental watering will be required. JAPANESE AUCUBA (Aucuba japonica) can take shade and some dry conditions as well as your winter conditions while remaining evergreen. Liriope of various types would be another option. If the containers are fairly large you might even get camellia to work. Once established they should do on natural rainfall if they are protected from sun. Thanks for the question.
