| I've bought a large beautifull nandina 'Purple passion havenly bamboo' from Monrovia and read on the web site that if I want my bush to produce berries, I need to buy also a bush of wild nandina, domestica to provide crosspollination for my first bush. Is it right? Can native nandina produce berries on its own and does not be crosspollinated but Purple passion - needs a partner to be crosspollinated? |
| Nandinas seem to produce berries most abundantly when there is a grouping of the plants, rather than a single specimen. Though the plants are self-fertile, they are at their best when cross-pollinated. Try planting in a group (3 or more shrubs). If that doesn't work, you can introduce a different variety of nandina to assure berry production. |
