I have several spruce bushes that the dogs have urinated on and they are turning black. Is there any way to save them? |
Dog urine will burn on contact so the affected plant parts are probably already dead; the bigger concern is how much of the urine has concentrated in the root mass area and whether or not the concentration has burned the roots. I'd start by caging the shrubs so they're not accessible to the dogs. Then I'd repeated flood the soil to leach out any concentrated urine. Finally, I'd prune off the dead plant parts. Only time will tell whether the spruces will recover. Hope so! |
