I have blood banana trees with frost damage. Can I cut the tree off at ground level and expect new growth? In the past I have only been cutting off the damaged leaves with more growing back, but the stalk has become unattractive and I am curious about cutting lower without killing the plant.

Thanks, Dave

Banana plants do sometimes freeze down to ground level and will resprout as long as the roots have been heavily mulched to protect against cold weather. Your blood banana should resprout if you cut the main stalk down to ground level (providing the roots survived the winter). Best wishes with your landscape!
