I am in the salt lake area and was wondering how might a snow gum (eucalyptus) do in this zone? I have heard that they are a very hardy variety from the snowy mountain range in australia, where it can get pretty cold as well.

Eucalyptus debeuzevillei, or Snow Gum eucalyptus, is hardy only to zone 7 (zero degrees). Your zip code puts you in zone 5, which is too cold for this plant. Wish I had more encouraging news for you!
