i just plant a 7 feet tall Prunus x yedoensis ?Akebono? tree in my backyard two weeks ago. I notice some of the tree branchs are showing sign of bark splitting. Is there anything I can do to fix this. Thanks |
It's not unusual for bark to crack and split on prunus. It's generally more pronounced on the southwest side of the tree where winter sun hits and expansion due to heating occurs. It won't hurt your tree and the cracked bark is one of the interesting characteristics of your 'Akebono'. There isn't anything you can do to repair the cracks - your tree will mend the splits on its own. |
