| I have a 20'x 12' garden. Along the 20' side, I'd like to grow yard long beans, 6 indeterminate tomato plants, and cucumbers. What kind of trellis do you suggest? I was considering three wooden frames with chicken wire attached. (It's against my house). |
| There are many different ways to support these plants. I would suggest though that you consider moving them out from the house where they will receive sun all day long and also have better air circulation on all sides, this will help reduce the chance of foliage diseases. Access from all sides will also help with harvesting and tieing the plants to the trellis or directing their growth. Personally, I prefer concrete reinforcing wire or larger meshed, sturdier barnyard wire in a circular cage supported on metal fence post or T stakes, or wire mesh suspended from a wire about six feet high and strung between the stakes. (Tomatoes, cucumbers and beans get very heavy by late summer when the vines are big and loaded with produce. That is also the time of year when there tend to be windy thunderstorms that can blow over a flimsy trellis.)
