I have a large container that I would like to plant a small tree in my courtyard. The exposure is Northern with late afternoon sun. I would like the tree to be decorative and not messy. What would you recommend?

Here are some suggestions for patio trees: Vine maple, Japanese maple, paperbark maple, Cercidium (Palo Verde), Chionanthus (fringe tree), Erythrina (coral tree), Dodonaea (hop bush), Cassia (gold medallion tree), Rhus (sumac), and Pyrus (evergreen pear). Japanese maples are probably the cleanest in terms of litter so that might be your best choice. Best wishes with your new tree!
