I am in need of a privacy screen along a six foot cedar fence that runs east/west. This screen would be planted on the northern side of this fence, allowing for morning sun at the base of the fence. Would 'Emerald' arborvitae thrive under these conditions? Do you have any other suggestions that could give me about 10 feet in height with the narrowest width possible? Thank you for your assistance.

Emerald arborvitae would be my first choice for the area you describe; Italian cypress would also be suitable. They're reasonably litter-free and will grow tall enough to provide a privacy screen with growing too wide for the planting area.
