The Q&A Archives: Trimming Dwarf Fountain Grass

Question: I planted your dwarf fountain grass in the fall. Am I suppose to trim it in the spring so it will bloom?

Answer: Clumping grasses don't have to be cut back, but they usually look less rangy and are rejuvenated if cut back to about 6 inches above the ground in early spring, just before new growth starts. If you planted it just last fall, it may not need cutting back until next year.
