My house faces north, so the beds in front of our porch don't get much sun at all. Any suggestions for flowering shrubs that would look nice in front of the house?

Sheila,

In low light your options are limited when it comes to blooming plants. Some possibilities are azaleas, gardenias, Virginia sweetspire and camellias. If the light levels are fairly good you might also get Chinese witchazel (Loropetalum) or spirea to bloom for you.
