| I purchased eight 2 gallon japanese euonymus plants last summer, and I don't know if three of them survived a very bitter winter.(Salt Lake). They were quite expensive, so we took great care in planting them. They are on the west side of the house and get full sun from about 2:00 on. These three plants are almost entirely yellow, and brittle, but do have a little bit of green at their base. I guess my question is do these plants sometimes yellow in winter? |
| Japanese Euonymus are evergreen shrubs so what you describe sounds like winter damage. They are hardy to zone 7 (zero degrees F) and require full sunshine. Your plants may be struggling due to lack of all day sunshine, and cold windy winter weather. I'd prune back the damaged plant parts to allow healthy new stems and branches to develop. Once the plants are fully established they should be able to cruise through your winter weather without problem. Best wishes with your landscape! |
