This bush has woody stems which grows up from a large root ball, with purple pea size blooms (not flowers), with tiny white featherly hairs on the edge of the bloom. The blooms are hanging only from the lower edge of the stems which are 2 to 4 feet in length, but can grow to 6 feet. I was told this was butterfly bush, but I have not found it in any search of plants. Sorry I don't have a pic to send, my daughter cut the bush down by mistake. Any ideas would be very helpful. Unfortunately, based on your description, it is a bit difficult to make a guess. It might be a Lespedeza thunbergii. There are some photos at the following web page. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly. http://www.mobot.org/gardening... I hope I am right. If so, and it was just cut down and not grubbed out, it may well regrow this summer. |
