we are making new flower beds all the way around 3 sides of our chain link fence in back yard, what should we do to keep the mulch from spilling into neighbors yards, because we are putting beds all the way to fence line? thank you for your help. |
There are several methods you could use. One is to edge the beds with a v-shaped trench which is refreshed periodically. This can be a good method as it will also keep the grass or plants from the other side out of your flower bed. Another way is to use an edger. You would use an edging material that extends below the soil and also upward to form a physical barrier. You would need to rake the mulch periodically in case it shifts towards the edge. Generally speaking though, most ypes of mulch are not very mobile once they are spread on the bed, an exception would be if there is a slope or there is heavy runoff that might wash it aside or if you use something very small and light such as rice hulls or cocoa shells. |
