I just planted your burgundy desert willow and want to train it as a tree. Are the roots going to get large and will they disrupt a nearby leach field? 8-10 feet away. Also, will I be able to grow plants under the canopy? |
Burgundy desert willow makes an attractive small tree. It will have an open, airy canopy so growing other plants beneath it should not be a problem. The roots can be expected to grow mostly in the top 12-18 inches of soil and extend out about as far and the canopy is wide. I don't think the roots will invade a leach line that's 8-10' away. Leach lines are typically too deep to be bothered by most shrubs and perennials, especially if they are kept 8-10' away from the lines. |
