| When you have had a failure with sod it is important to figure out why it failed before you try to replant. Then you can try to correct your procedures to assure your new grass will survive and thrive. The sod could be tilled under to provide additional organic matter in the soil prior to seeding. (A slit seeder is typically used to seed through living lawn that is sparse and being renovated, rather than to replace a lawn that is entirely dead.) But I would also suggest you consult with your local county extension with regard to the best procedures and grass varieties for your local area and soil. You might also run some basic soil tests if you have not already done so to make sure your soil pH and fertility levels are adequate for growing turf grass.
