I admire roses but am hesitant to plant any because of the work involved. Is there a rose plant or bush that will thrive in Miami, Florida without a lot of work. thank you I also enjoy crape myrtles but do not know anything about them. |
Lena, Roses can be grown in south Florida but it is not an especially easy task. It is most important to build up the soil with compost, to choose a site with at least 6-8 hours of sun, to keep the soil moist but not soggy, and to fertilize every few weeks to maintain good vigor. The following web site will offer some helpful advice for you. Crape myrtles are not too difficult to grow but may struggle in your zone 10 area if not provided moderate care in the form of periodic watering. The best type to choose is the Queens Crape Myrtle (Pride of India) (Lagerstroemia speciosa or L. flos-reginae). Standard types of crape can also be grown with proper care. Thanks for the question.
