I live in florida and would like to start a flower garden of perennial's. Can I use the sand I already have or do I need to add something in it? |
Iris, Sandy soil doesn't hold water or nutrients very well. Therefore to get the best results with your flower garden you should mix a few inches of well decomposed compost into the soil as deeply as it practical, usually about 6 inches deep. This will help the soil hold moisture while still draining well. It also will help hold nutrients and the compost will further decompose releasing more nutrients to the growing plants over time. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
