I have an area along back wall of our house that are floor to ceiling windows that we are planting some dwarf New Zealand flax plants. I'm looking for a ground cover that would also stay low and look good with the flax plants. We have a tropical garden. During the summer the area will get hot afternoon sun.

Have you considered growing Gazinia or Aptenia? Gazinia is available in red, orange or yellow flowers and is low growing; Aptenia has succulent leaves and grows only 10" tall. It's available in either red or white flowering varieties. Either would complement your New Zealand flax.
