| I bought a Maui Ixora and then realized it would have to be brought in during the winter. When I brought it inside it flowered for about a month and then the leaves started to fall off. Now it is bare but the branches still look greenish and alive. Doesa plant like this go into a dormant state? |
| Your Ixora is also called 'Flame of the Woods'. It's tropical in nature and is best grown in a greenhouse because it needs a minimum winter temperature of 65F degrees. If your plant pulls through the winter, give it bright light but not direct sunlight, warm temperatures (65F plus), keep the potting soil moist at all times and mist the leaves regularly. Ixora's can grow to be small shrubs, and flower from spring through autumn. They tend to drop their leaves if exposed to cold air, even for a brief time. They will drop their flower buds if moved from one location to another. After flowering stops, let the soil dry out for about four weeks, then resume normal watering.
