When I looked up this variety of honeysuckle, the plant into stated groundcover. I've never heard it used for this before. If I let it grow on the ground, will it choke out other plants?

You can use honeysuckle vines as a groundcover; if there is nothing for it to twine up onto it will spread outward along the ground. It will however overwhelm nearby plants -- such as desired perennials and shrubs. I hope this helps.
