| Hydrangeas are relatively fast growers so you can expect your Pee Gee tree to bloom by its third year. Hydrangeas bloom on new wood produced on old wood so take care in pruning your Pee Gee or it won't bloom at all for you. As for your climbing hydranges, again, hydrangeas bloom on new wood which develops on old wood. Be careful when pruning, making sure you leave at least two buds on each stem that you prune back. If you haven't pruned your hydrangeas, try cutting them back to encourage healthy new growth. This may shock the plants into producing flowers. Be careful with fertilizer, too. If your plants receive too much nitrogen they can react by producing lots of vegetative growth at the expense of blooms. Best wishes with your garden! |
