| i transplanted a rose of sharon that does not appear to be coming back would it stimulate growth if i planted a second nearby. this bush is irreplaceable so i want to try everything....any suggestions? thanks so much Diane |
| This shrub is one of the last to leaf out in the spring so it is still to early to be looking for new growth. Planting another nearby would not have any effect. Things you can do to help it along would include trimming it back to compensate for the roots left behind when you dug it for moving, apply a top dressing of good quality compost, and water it if the soil becomes dry. Your goal in watering is to keep the soil slightly damp like a wrung out sponge, not sopping wet. To know if you need to water, dig into the soil with your finger. If it is still damp, do not water yet. When you do water, water slowly and thoroughly so it soaks down deep. After watering, wait a few hours and then dig down to see how far the water went; sometimes it can be surprising. Best of luck with your shrub! |
