There are dozens of varieties of Ligustrum, or privet. They have showy clusters of white flowers all summer and are easily grown in most any soil. Privets should be available in local nurseries in the early spring. Plant them as soon as they're available and water them well all summer until they become established. After that, they're relatively carefree shrubs.
