Dried and shredded leaves can become an organic mulch to be placed on the soil surface to help slow evaporation, to cool the roots of plants and to help suppress weeds. As it decomposes it can be worked into the soil to become an organic amendment. If you choose not to work the decomposed leaf mulch into your garden you can rake it up and toss it into the compost heap. Hope this answers your question!
