Thank you for getting back to me so rapidly. I'm afraid to use the taller bare root plants because the college kids would pull them out. Is it possible to purchase somthing shorter that is fairly well established? If I use the three footers can I trim them immediately as they are starting to bud out? Thanks. |
You can cut them down to as short as a foot tall -- pruning will help them branch close to the base and develop a lower framework. Prune them when you plant them, yes, it is better to do it right away than to wait until they are leafed out. Maybe you can protect them from passersby with a bit of plain wire strung between posts, just enough hindrance to make it annoying. Good luck with the hedge! |
