| The type of rootstock that apples are grafted onto determines the size (and sometimes vigor) of the tree. If you started an apple tree from a cutting, it would probably not give satisfactory results. Instead of creating a whole new tree, why not graft cuttings of your favorite apple trees onto an existing apple tree? You can use a number of techniques for grafting new branches onto established trees; there are books explaining the process in detail.
