| Help!! I have planted my garden twice this year already. My tomato plants die in about 3 days/my okra seems slow growing and unhealthy/my squash hills 3 of 6 have died/ and my bell peppers and sweet bannana peppers are doing fine.I tested my soil --ph a little low --nitrogen high --phosphorus high-- potas. med to high. For twelve years the garden was edged by railroad wall cross ties? What do I do? What do I look for? |
| Skip, Very strange. The nutrients sound fine except for pH being a little low. Some lime can help this. I don't think the railroad ties are the problem. I suggest you mix a couple of inches of compost into the soil and then try planting again. Sometimes in a new spot a garden will struggle the first season but then once the soil settles in with some organic matter things willgrow fine. You may also be seeing problems from soil insects such as wireworms or from dry soil or oversaturated soil conditions. Try to keep the soil evenly moist and don't give up.
