I have a dining patio 3.5' off my fence line. I would like to plant a hedge to block my neighbors 2 story house. I want a formal look and will keep trimmed and sheared. I would like to plant the standard Cherry Laurel because I can get 15 Gal. with a 7' height now. Will I be able to keep the edges green and nice with trimming to a 4' width? I could go to the compact form but will have to wait much longer for it to grow over the 6' fence line. One more question: I want a 5 Gal. Phlomis and have searched many nurseries locally and can not find it. Can I order from you?
Thank you,
Michelle

Cherry laurel can grow 15-40 feet wide so you'd end up with mostly bare branches if you tried to keep it only 3' wide. A better choice might be Sky Pencil Japanese Holly (Ilex crenata), Hick's Yew, or Arborvitae 'Pyrmidalis'. These shrubs are upright an narrow in growth habit and will not require severe pruning to keep them from growing too wide.

Monrovia is a wholesale nursery and does not sell directly to the public but you should be able to find Phlomis (Jerusalem Sage) in one of the following local retailers:
